Yasmine is a senior at Columbia College double majoring in Neuroscience and Philosophy, originally from Luxembourg. She has been a member of the TEI Party since her sophomore year, previously having worked in Alzheimer’s research labs at Northwestern University and Columbia Medical Center. She is passionate about how our environments influence how we navigate the world, as well as our disease susceptibility and psychopathology. In the Axel lab, she has focused on the molecular mechanisms of Transgenerational Epigenetic Inheritance, and hopes to continue this research in graduate school and in her future career as a neuroscientist. She is passionate about how the interdisciplinary study of epigenetics can illuminate various solutions to the many inequities in society. Throughout her time at Columbia, she has been actively engaged in science advocacy and community empowerment and outreach. As Vice President and President of the Columbia Neuroscience Society, she has organized conferences, mentorship programs, summer programs and research fairs centered on the power of science and science accessibility in effecting change on an individual and collective level. In her free time, she loves to write for her blog (www.noumenalmind.com), dance, and explore all the city has to offer.
