Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, Sloane is an undergraduate student studying Neuroscience and Behavior and Linguistics at Columbia University. Prior to joining the Marlin lab, she conducted research in Sarah Woolley's lab, exploring the neurolinguistics of bird calls across various bird species. Motivated by her observations of intergenerational trauma within her aunt's family, descendants of Holocaust survivors, as well as within her broader family and community, Sloane joined the Marlin lab. Her research focuses on understanding the transmission of trauma to offspring and the epigenetic encoding of traumatic experiences in order to better understand why her community is the way it is. Outside of the lab, you can find her skiing, reading, or baking croissants at a bakery on the Lower East Side.
