Avery (he/him) graduated from Grinnell College in 2023 with a degree in Biological Chemistry and a concentration in Neuroscience. In college, he worked with Dr. Clark Lindgren to study synaptic communication at the neuromuscular junction, and with Dr. Nancy Rempel-Clower to study the neural correlates of anxiety-like behaviors. In the summer of 2022, he participated in an REU at Princeton University where he studied the effects of early life stress on adult neurogenesis under the mentorship of Dr. Elizabeth Gould. Outside of the lab, Avery is passionate about science education and outreach. He has worked as a TA for biochemistry, chemistry, and neuroscience courses at Grinnell and has helped support students across the world as a TA for the International Youth Neuroscience Association’s summer courses. In his free time, he enjoys roller skating, reading, and visiting botanical gardens.
