Born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia, Angélica holds a BA in Psychology from Universidad de los Andes and an MA in Developmental Psychology from Columbia University. She is completing her MS in Epidemiology, with a concentration in Biostatistics, at the Mailman School of Public Health. Angélica's research journey began in Dr. Kimberley Nobel's laboratory, studying the influence of early social experiences and socioeconomic disparities on brain development and cognition. Later, as a laboratory manager in Dr. Paul Glimcher's lab at NYU Langone, she helped spearhead multiple projects using fMRI and theoretical tools to study human choice and decision-making mechanisms. Now a part of Dr. Bianca Marlin's team, she is excited to study epigenetic inheritance and delve deeper into the intricate biological mechanisms through which traumatic experiences "get under the skin" and are transmitted across generations. When not in the lab, Angélica can be found biking through NYC, painting, or experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen.
